The first domestically produced boron neutron capture therapy device completed the first clinical treatment
On August 12, the first domestic boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) equipment jointly developed by the Dongguan Research Department of the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guoke Neutron Medical Technology Co., Ltd. completed the full-process treatment of the first patient at Dongguan People's Hospital.
BNCT is China's first BNCT equipment with completely independent intellectual property rights. Its key technology comes from the China Spallation Neutron Source, a major national scientific and technological infrastructure. As a major national scientific and technological achievement for people's life and health, it reflects China's strong strength in the field of high-end medical equipment research and development.
In order to promote the progress of the BNCT project, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Holdings Co., Ltd. and others established a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development, production and marketing of high-end BNCT medical equipment - Guoke Neutron Medical Technology Co., Ltd. The Dongguan Research Department teamed up with the company, the Tenth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University (Dongguan People's Hospital), and Hainan Puli Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to promote the development and clinical practice of domestic BNCT equipment and successfully completed the first clinical BNCT treatment, becoming a model for medical technology innovation and localization of high-end medical equipment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The BNCT equipment developed based on China's independent intellectual property rights integrates key technologies such as domestic accelerator, target and beam control, and has the advantages of accurate positioning, controllable dose, and repeatable operation. In clinical applications, this device can perform high-intensity, localized irradiation on tumors and continuously exert a tumor-killing effect. At the same time, it shows high safety due to its short radiation range and minimal involvement of adjacent normal tissues.
During the entire clinical treatment of the first BNCT patient, the device operated stably and reliably, and the beam parameters were maintained at a highly stable state. After the beam stop operation is implemented, the residual dose in the environment quickly attenuates, ensuring the safety and health of the operators. The research team is working hard to conduct follow-up clinical trials and strive to complete the clinical trial research as planned.
The BNCT team will continue to implement the national science and technology innovation strategy, accelerate the registration and application process of domestic BNCT equipment and boron drugs, and make greater contributions to building a healthy China and protecting people's happy life.
