Start with a clinical assessment
Our case consultation and coordination services are for patients who have already had an initial assessment of their current condition by a licensed doctor at an established medical institution. You need verifiable medical and diagnostic records, together with the relevant medical history, previous treatment and any available imaging, laboratory or pathology reports. The exact documents depend on your condition and the receiving hospital’s requirements. Not everyone needs every type of test; please do not arrange extra tests solely to apply for our services.
You may submit the records you already have for a medical records review. We will identify any essential missing information before deciding whether Stage 2 can proceed. If you have not yet had an initial medical assessment, please see a local medical provider first. Our service cannot replace an initial medical diagnosis. Where remote medical assessment is involved, the receiving hospital and doctor determine whether they can accept your case.
Stages 2–6 proceed through successive eligibility checks based on your condition, specialist findings and the practical feasibility of travelling for care. Hospitals and doctors determine medical suitability; we check the scope of our services and coordinate arrangements. Completing an earlier stage does not automatically qualify you for subsequent stages. The treatment country, receiving hospital and support we can provide are confirmed for each case before arrangements proceed.
Support and communication
Each stage starts with your needs. We confirm your goals, required records and the support we can provide, then develop arrangements as clinical assessment and hospital acceptance become clear.
Your service coordinator
Your coordinator helps organise records, follow up with the hospital and confirm appointments and practical arrangements. After each discussion, we clarify what is confirmed, what information is still needed and who will follow up.
Service languages
We provide communication support in Chinese and English. If you need another language, tell us in advance so we can check availability and the support we can arrange. The receiving clinical team must confirm information about diagnosis, treatment and informed consent.
When plans change
Tell your coordinator if your condition, travel circumstances or preferences change. We help review hospital arrangements and next steps; the relevant doctors determine whether travel or treatment remains appropriate.
Medical Records Review & Feedback
If you have already had an initial medical assessment and are considering care abroad, tell us about your situation and the support you need. You can begin with your existing records and key reports; we will help identify any missing information.
What you receive: Initial feedback or a list of additional records needed, together with suggested next steps.
Service details & eligibility
Use and confidentiality of your records
You must have authority to provide the records you submit. We use them to organise and support the assessment and care coordination you request, subject to the Privacy Policy and any specific authorisation required. Relevant hospitals, doctors and support providers receive only the information needed for the authorised purpose. An AI attachment is shared with the care team only after you confirm the summary and attachment list.
What we do
- Understand your main care needs, previous treatment, current country, communication language and approximate timetable.
- Review your available diagnosis summary, key reports, treatment records and medication information, and identify anything that needs to be added.
- Organise the questions that matter most to you, such as exploring treatment options, seeking a specialist opinion or arranging care abroad.
- Create a case file and assign a service coordinator to simplify follow-up communication and reduce repeat submissions.
The preliminary review helps us understand your needs and organise further assessment. Diagnosis, treatment recommendations and whether your case can be accepted are confirmed by the hospital and doctors.
Video Consultation
A detailed video conversation helps us understand your medical background, care goals and practical needs, and clarify the next steps.
What you receive: A summary of the video discussion and preparation guidance for the subsequent specialist assessment.
Service details & eligibility
Eligibility for this stage
After the preliminary records review, we can arrange a video consultation when the following conditions are met:
- An initial medical assessment has been completed and relevant records are available. You have diagnostic records from a licensed doctor at an established medical institution, with the medical history, treatment information and reports needed for this consultation. Essential missing records must be supplied first.
- Your care needs are within our service scope, including the specialties we can help contact and the support we can provide.
- You have a clear reason for further discussion, such as exploring treatment options, seeking a specialist opinion or considering care abroad, and specific questions to address.
- Your current situation allows further discussion through a scheduled consultation. If you need immediate local medical attention, obtain that help first. Medical professionals assess clinical urgency.
What we do
- Organise your medical history and questions before the call so you can make the most of the discussion.
- Coordinate the appointment across time zones and provide necessary language support.
- Understand your treatment experience, goals, timetable, communication preferences and accompaniment needs.
- Explain specialist assessment, hospital appointments and the process of travelling for care, and answer questions about services and arrangements.
- If a doctor joins, help you communicate with them. We will tell you who is attending and their role before the meeting.
- Summarise the discussion, missing records and next steps after the call.
In-Depth Specialist Assessment
We help submit your records to an appropriate specialist team so doctors can assess your situation and questions, and advise whether further care abroad is worth considering.
What you receive: Specialist assessment feedback, a preliminary direction for care and suggested next steps.
Service details & eligibility
Eligibility for this stage
After the video consultation, you may proceed when:
- There is a treatment direction that can be assessed further. Your condition and goals match an available specialty, and the receiving team is willing to review your case.
- Your medical information supports a meaningful assessment. The diagnosis, treatment history and key investigations allow doctors to understand the main issues. If they cannot yet judge, we will help gather more information rather than present uncertainty as confirmation that the proposed treatment is suitable.
What we do
- Coordinate with an appropriate specialty and organise a summary of your condition, treatment history and questions.
- Follow up on any additional records requested by doctors and explain what is needed and why.
- Coordinate medical assessment of possible diagnostic or treatment directions, the need for an in-person hospital visit and any further tests that may be required on arrival.
- Help you understand feedback on the preliminary approach, expected timeframe and questions that remain unresolved.
- Organise opinions issued or confirmed by doctors and help you compare next steps, including proceeding with the agreed care arrangements, obtaining local care first or seeking reassessment after supplying further records.
The assessment is based on the information available at the time. Tests after arrival may reveal new information. The final treatment plan is agreed between you and the treating doctor.
Hospital Coordination & Appointment Booking
When you decide to continue with care abroad, we turn the preliminary recommendations into clear hospital contacts, appointments and arrival arrangements.
What you receive: Appointment arrangements, a hospital preparation checklist, contact details and check-in instructions.
Service details & eligibility
Eligibility for this stage
After specialist assessment, we can proceed when:
- Doctors consider there to be a reason for further hospital assessment or treatment. The specialist opinion supports an in-person consultation, investigation or treatment at the receiving hospital; an appointment is not arranged solely because you wish to travel.
- An appropriate hospital can receive your care needs. A suitable specialty or hospital has been identified, and your main needs match its scope.
- You understand and wish to consider this direction of care. You are aware of the preliminary advice, unresolved questions and the possibility of changes after arrival, and choose to continue.
If the assessment recommends local treatment first, postponing travel, or if no suitable medical resources are available, we will explain the reasons and the options that remain.
What we do
- Contact the hospital’s patient reception department or specialist team to coordinate the initial hospital visit and subsequent investigations.
- If admission is needed, help clarify admission procedures, bed arrangements and required documents.
- Check pre-visit preparation, possible additional investigations and arrangements that need your confirmation with the hospital.
- Organise appointment details, the hospital address, check-in location and records to bring.
Outpatient visits, admission and treatment arrangements may be confirmed at different times. We will explain each separately so you can plan your journey.
Visa Assistance & Travel Planning
Based on your appointment schedule and personal needs, we help prepare entry formalities and travel plans so arrangements are clearer before departure.
What you receive: A formalities checklist, travel arrangements and reminders before departure.
Service details & eligibility
Eligibility for this stage
We proceed when travelling for care is feasible and the following conditions are met:
- There is a clear receiving team for your care. A hospital is willing to receive you, and the proposed assessment or treatment matches your current needs.
- Your health allows cross-border travel to be considered. Doctors assess travel suitability and any special medical support required. Necessary local treatment or stabilisation takes priority.
- You can make the practical arrangements for the journey, including a stay consistent with the expected care period, suitable accommodation and transport, and family accompaniment or professional care when required.
- You understand possible changes, including additional investigations, treatment adjustments or a longer stay, and choose to prepare for travel with that understanding.
What we do
- Help identify applicable entry procedures, document checklists and official application channels for your circumstances.
- Liaise with the hospital to obtain appointment confirmations or other supporting documents it can provide.
- Help check documents, follow up on additional requests and allow reasonable processing time.
- Help plan flights, accommodation and local transport around appointment dates, the expected stay and mobility needs.
- Prepare a departure checklist covering medical records, medication-carrying requirements to verify, contact details and hospital arrangements.
- Discuss follow-up or continuing treatment needs after you return home, to support the later handover.
Visa and entry decisions are made by the relevant authorities. We assist with document preparation. Before tickets are purchased and before departure, we will reconfirm hospital acceptance, travel and arrival arrangements with you.
Arrival Assistance & Settling In
After you arrive in an unfamiliar city, we help coordinate your reception and settling in, and prepare for your first hospital visit.
What you receive: Arrival and settling-in arrangements, with a clear understanding of your first hospital appointment.
Service details & eligibility
Eligibility for this stage
Before departure and arrival, we check your current situation again. This stage can proceed as planned when:
- Your condition still matches the receiving arrangements. Any new symptoms, changes in your condition or treatment adjustments since assessment have been shared with the clinical team, and doctors have confirmed whether reassessment or itinerary changes are needed.
- Your health is suitable for the planned mode of travel. Required accompaniment, mobility assistance or medical support can be provided during the journey and after arrival; doctors make the relevant medical judgments.
- Your arrival needs are within the arranged service capacity. You can proceed to your accommodation or hospital as planned. If medical transport, direct admission or professional nursing is needed, an appropriate provider has been arranged.
If your situation changes before departure, we will help adjust arrangements. If urgent medical attention is needed on arrival, we prioritise helping you contact medical services before settling-in arrangements.
What we do
- Send reception instructions, monitor flight changes and coordinate airport or station pickup and transport to your accommodation or hospital.
- Help with accommodation check-in and confirm the time and location of the first appointment.
- Explain basic use of local communication, transport and everyday facilities near the hospital.
- Help check the medical records and appointment documents you have brought and address missing items that could affect your visit.
- Explain subsequent accompaniment arrangements, including departure times, who will assist you and how to contact us if something arises.
If you need medical transport, direct admission or professional nursing, tell us before departure so we can coordinate the handover with the hospital and relevant providers.
Support During Treatment
During care abroad, you can arrange hospital accompaniment and daily living assistance around your treatment schedule and personal needs. We confirm the support, staffing and service times in advance. The two types of support below can be arranged separately or together.
What you receive: Hospital accompaniment and daily living assistance suited to your needs during the agreed times, with a clear scope and point of contact.
Service details & eligibility
Treatment-related assistance

- Accompaniment to consultations and tests: help with registration, check-in, waiting and locating results, and relay preparation requirements provided by the hospital.
- Admission and hospital procedures: help with admission, understanding ward arrangements and coordinating between departments, investigations and treatment steps.
- Care schedule coordination: organise confirmed consultations, tests and treatment times, help with rescheduling or last-minute changes and explain updated arrangements.
- Medical records and reports: organise reports, treatment records and medical opinions, help obtain imaging, and provide summaries and necessary translation for communication.
- Changes in care arrangements: help contact the relevant people to clarify changes in treatment plans or the expected stay and confirm next steps.
- Updates for family: with your authorisation, help relay progress and confirmed arrangements to family members.
Daily living assistance
Help with everyday tasks, companionship and support for you and accompanying family members.

- Hospital companionship and family relief: where the hospital permits, provide bedside companionship and help contact nurses so family members can rest or go out temporarily.
- Meals and daily essentials: help order or collect meals, buy everyday items and organise belongings. Follow medical staff’s guidance where dietary restrictions apply.
- Accommodation matters: help communicate with your accommodation provider about extending your stay, room needs and other everyday issues.
- Accompanied local journeys: travel with you between accommodation, the hospital and necessary everyday destinations, helping with transport, directions and communication.
- Everyday interpretation: Chinese–English support for shopping, dining, accommodation and transport.
- Basic mobility assistance: help with wheelchair travel, carrying belongings and everyday movement within staff capability and safe limits. If professional transfers or higher-intensity care are needed, suitable arrangements will be discussed in advance.
Booking and coordination
- Before booking, confirm the support required, location, start and end times, staff and contact details.
- Tell us about mobility, language, accompanying family members and any needs that require advance preparation.
- If you need to extend, change or cancel arrangements, contact your coordinator early so we can check availability and update the plan.
Scope of support
Accompaniment and daily living assistance do not include medical diagnosis, treatment or professional nursing such as injections, dressing changes or catheter care. If you need professional nursing, we can help contact the hospital or an appropriate provider to confirm suitable arrangements.
Discharge & Return Travel Support
When you are preparing to go home, we help organise treatment records, discharge procedures and return travel so continuing care can be handed over smoothly.
What you receive: Organised medical records, return-travel arrangements and follow-up contact information before you leave.
Service details & eligibility
What we do
- Help with discharge procedures, required documents, records collection and arrangements for leaving the hospital.
- Organise the discharge summary, treatment records, test reports, ways to obtain imaging and follow-up requirements.
- Help you understand medication and home-care instructions provided by doctors, and seek clarification from them where needed.
- Contact doctors about return-travel precautions and help arrange accommodation check-out, flight changes and transport to the airport or station.
- With your authorisation, share records with family members or the doctor continuing your care locally and check that they have been received.
- Explain how to stay in touch, the first follow-up arrangements and when outstanding reports are expected.
Before returning home, confirm travel readiness, precautions for the journey and the follow-up plan with your treatment team.
Follow-Up & Ongoing Care
After you return home, we continue to help you contact the original treatment team when you need to submit follow-up results, clarify arrangements or obtain outstanding documents.
Service details & eligibility
What we do
- Contact you as agreed to check that your return journey went smoothly and that records and further care arrangements are in place.
- Remind you about reviews in line with the hospital’s follow-up plan, help arrange appointments and explain which records to prepare.
- With your consent, organise subsequent test reports for the original treatment team and follow up on feedback and outstanding results.
- Help communication between you, your treating team and your local doctor to support continuing care.
- Follow up on outstanding documents, reports and communication relating to this service.
- If you need to return for further care, help clarify the next assessment, required records and care arrangements.
If you develop symptoms requiring urgent attention, contact emergency or medical services where you are. Do not wait for our reply.
Timing and next steps
The timeframes below are indicative only, not fixed completion deadlines. Actual timing depends on your case and hospital, visa and travel arrangements. We will agree next steps with you based on records readiness, doctors’ schedules and your itinerary, and update you if timings change.
| Transition | Indicative timing |
|---|---|
| Preliminary records review → video consultation | 1–3 days |
| Video consultation → specialist assessment | 2–3 days |
| Specialist assessment → hospital coordination and booking | 2–3 days |
| Hospital booking → visa and travel preparation | Around 1 week |
| Completion of travel preparation → arrival at your destination | According to your circumstances |
| Treatment, discharge and follow-up | According to the hospital’s treatment and follow-up plans |
These estimates assume the required records are complete and the relevant arrangements can proceed. They are not deadlines for visa approval or completion of all medical arrangements. If more records or hospital confirmation are needed, we will explain why and update the expected timing.
You do not need to work out every procedure alone. If you are missing records or have already made some arrangements yourself, tell your service coordinator. We will help identify what needs to happen next.
Who makes which decisions?
Chirona provides health consultation and care assistance services. We do not directly provide medical diagnosis or treatment, and do not promise or guarantee treatment outcomes. Medical assessment, diagnosis and treatment are the responsibility of the receiving hospitals and doctors. We help you understand the care process, communicate your needs and coordinate arrangements; our consultation and assistance do not replace professional medical advice.
Understand cancer second opinionsQuestions before you start
Do I need to complete all nine stages?
Not necessarily. The nine stages describe the full pathway from first contact to follow-up at home. Tell us where you are in the process and what is already arranged so we can identify a suitable starting point, the support needed and the conditions for later stages.
Can I start if my records are incomplete?
You can begin with existing records after an initial assessment by a licensed doctor. We identify essential gaps; the next stage proceeds when the information and service scope are suitable. Do not arrange extra tests solely for this application.
Can I speak with a specialist before travelling?
We can coordinate specialist assessment where the receiving team accepts the case and the available records are sufficient. We confirm who will attend a video discussion; a coordinator conversation is not automatically a consultation with a doctor.
Start with your situation, not a finished travel plan.
Tell us about your diagnosis, treatment so far and the question you need help with. We can explain which records matter first and whether the next stage is within our coordination scope.
